This memorial window was for a gentlemen who was in the medical field. Because of his profession, the caduceus was used to represent his life long dedication to serving the medical needs of others. The caduceus was cut from an opalescent flashed glass which had a slight greenish cast to it. The paintwork was a green black grisaille stained glass paint. Silver stain was applied and fired to the reverse side, yielding a golden glow to the snakes and top of their wings.
The landscape design elements of the window were taken from the farm where he had grown up. His daughter supplied me with a series of photographs. I then laid out the linework onto art vellum. The barn was drawn in two point perspective, which gave a more dimensional feel to the window. The earth tone background glasses are Chicago Art Glass and Kokomo Opalescent Glass. The clouds are from Kokomo also.
